What is the difference between Type-A and Type-C USB?

Type-A USB was designed as a connector for connecting peripheral devices, with low power consumption, such as keyboards or mice. Over recent years it has been adopted as a phone/tablet charging connector, but that is limited to 12W, at best, and more frequently only 5W Type-C USB has been designed as a power and data connector, for use with virtually all mobile devices in mind. It was designed to allow up to 60W charging with standard USB cables, but with specialised cables, the Type-C connector has been future-proofed to allow up to 100W provision, where the supply allows. And where the Type-A USB was polarised and could only be inserted in one way (leading to the well-known phenomenon of having to “plugin 3 times”) the Type-C connector is bi-directional, so you can plug into it either way around. But in this regard ANIMATE is unique, having a patented bi-directional Type-A USB connector. So for OE TUF modules, both Type-A and Type-C, you can “plugin first time, every time”.
