The future of Charging:

USB-C

≤100W; Universal; power, video, data; fast charging

WHAT IS IT?

USB-C is a symmetrical and reversible connector replacing older USB-A connectors, offering faster data transfer rates and power delivery.

USB-C power delivery (PD 3.0) can deliver up to 100 watts of charging power to power phones, tablets, earphones, laptops and beyond.

ALL FOR ONE + ONE FOR ALL

The EU COMMON CHARGER DIRECTIVE states that the most commonly used electronic devices, when purchased new, will need to be chargeable by USB-C by the 28th December 2024 with laptops following 28th April 2026.

Laptop PSUs are often heavy, bulky, and contribute more to WEEE waste.

USB-C with OE units

A common USB-C cable is all that’s needed to charge a laptop from a high power USB-C module.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE FUTURE OF WORKSPACE & OFFICE DESIGN?

THE FUTURE IS AGILE

With no need to be tethered to a power outlet, employees can move around more freely and collaborate with colleagues in different parts of the office, leading to a more dynamic and agile work environment.

COMMON OFFICE PRODUCTS TO USE USB-C TECHNOLOGY

  • Laptops
  • Mobile phones
  • Tablets and e-readers
  • Digital cameras
  • Monitors
  • Headphones,
  • Earbuds
  • Peripherals such as
  • Wireless mouse &
  • Keyboards

it’s not so simple... yet.

USB-C CABLES:
NOT ALL CAN BE USED TO CHARGE

The most popular spec of cable on the market is 60W, these are often included with devices with lower charging requirements such as phones or small tablets.

Laptops require more power than smaller devices, and generally they will charge fine from a standard USB cable from any USB charger capable of supplying 45W or more.

TECHNOLOGY IS CHANGING AT A RAPID RATE

Although some electronics manufacturers are still resisting adding USB-C charging ports to their devices , new European laws will accelerate the widespread adoption of USB-C across all portable, rechargeable technologies. OE are experts in charging, so get in touch to learn more about how you can prepare for the USB-C takeover.

PORTS:
NOT ALL ARE THERE FOR CHARGING

Not all USB-C ports are capable of charging. Some laptops may have USB-C ports that do not support charging. It’s essential to check whether your device’s USB-C port is designed for charging before attempting to charge it through this port.
