/ / HOT-DESKING – WHAT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED?

communication is key

Hot-desking can be a big change for a lot of people. Everyone is losing their personal desk spaces; they deserve to be kept in the loop.

Be transparent about the plan to implement hot-desking. This is an opportunity to respond to any questions or fears that people may have about the change.

consider a clean desk policy

A messy and untidy workspace can have a significant impact on how we work. Simple guidance on not eating at desks can have a huge impact on the cleanliness of the space.

You could also consider investing in self-cleaning equipment – such as keyboards.

make hot-desking one part of your agile strategy

Everyone enjoys working differently. It can be important to change environments throughout the day – depending on the task at hand.

Hot-desking should be a part of a bigger, agile working plan. Is your home-working policy up-to-date? Are there private areas within the office for phone calls? Have you considered adding flexible working environments throughout the office for different types of work? Once you have answered these questions, people will be more excited to participate in a hot-desk policy.

create a space to form tight knit bonds within teams

Employees miss the social aspect of the office. Try swapping some desk space for a company cafe or games area.

invest in adjustable equipment

The equipment will no longer be used by one person for months on end. People must be able to adjust the chairs and monitors easily. You could run a training session to make sure that people are doing this and following the DSE regulations.
