What happens to batteries at the end of their life?

We all use batteries, every day, whether in our phones, our laptops or our cars; batteries are essential to our lives, But over time they run out of power and even rechargable batteries such as lithium-ion will eventually stop recharging. We’d like to believe that most of us now are very good at putting everything that can be recycled into the correct recycling bin, but what happens after that.

Li-Cycle in the U.S. is one of the largest battery recycling, or ‘battery recovery’ companies in America and a growing presence in Europe. Established in 2016, Li-Cycle are on ‘a mission to recover critical battery-grade materials to create a domestic closed loop battery supply chain for a clean energy future’

In the video below, Youtuber JerryRigEverything takes us on journey through Li-Cycles facilities to demonstrate how they recycled batteries – even electrics car batteries.
